As a property manager and owner of a vacation rental company, it may be a great investment right now to purchase a 2nd home, but also know that your mortgage and all of the expenses, not to mention the 20K start up fees for furnishing the property, will not be covered by renters. It will help some, but it is not a cash cow. I think many buyers do not really understand the cost benefits and now with the economy spinning downwards, I find many owners trying to sell off their properties, because they cant afford to pay 2 mortgages.
So while there are great deals out there, buyers be aware of all of the costs and do your homework. Cost Analysts should be done with your real estate agent. Talk to vacation rental companies and learn more about one of the biggest investments you will take.
