Spring is in the air in Gainesville and start enjoying fresh from the farm goods at the Local Market at Citizens CO-op.  Every Sunday afternoon from 2-5 come out meet your local farmers and take home fresh produce.  There will local bakers on hand with baked goods to round out your fresh dinner items.  You can even pick up a special gift from one of the craftfolks.  Make sure you catch the live music.

Spend the weekend supporting local Gainesville 4-H and FFA youth at the 2012 Alachua County Youth Fair and Livestock Show.  These young farmers will be displaying cows, pigs, rabbits, and plants.  At this fun event you will be able to see these inventive youth display their rubber band cars and bottle rockets.  These youth have been working very hard learning about and keeping these animals and are ready to show you all there is to know about caring for these animals.

Gainesville is home to many different types of animals; spend the weekend learning from these young farmers.  Bring the kids to see all the wonderful animals and exhibits this weekend March 2-5 at the Alachua County Fair Grounds.

Support musicians in the Gainesville area this Sunday at 2pm at Sunday at the Pops!  The Gainesville Community Band will feature Bill Price as he plays arrangements from the Big Band era.  Some of the other guest artist performing will be William Dishman on the trumpet, Charles Popper on the trombone and Rachel Matz on the tuba.  Spend your Sunday afternoon enjoying music from the past at the Santa Fe College Fine Arts Hall Auditorium.

The bustling medieval market place of Hoggetowne is coming to Gainesville this weekend.  Go back to medieval times with the 26th Annual Hoggetowne Medieval Faire at the Alachua County Fairgrounds January 28-29.  Pick your favorite knight to cheer for as he jousts in full plate armor.  As you stroll you will be entertained by minstrels playing period music, and street performers, who will dance, juggle and jest.

Eleanor of Aquitaine and her husband Henry II will be on hand to entertain you with their living chess match and you will have a chance to try it yourself.  There will also be over 160 artisans demonstrating their skills which include blacksmithing, weaving, leatherworking, woodcarving, and pottery.  After you have walked around and seen all the fun activities going on you will have worked up an appetite and you will not be disappointed in the food available that’s fit for a king, sweet potato fries, bloomin onions and the famous giant turkey legs.

There will be displays that focus on power strips, solar panels and thermostats.
